Following the opening of the Hong Kong Central Library in May 2001 and the completion of the first phase of the City Hall Public Library Renovation Project, the plan of setting up a Business and Industry Library at the City Hall Reference Library was realized to better serve the business and industry sectors as well as members of the general public who are interested in these subjects.

The Business and Industry Library, located at the 11^th floor of City Hall Public Library, came into operation in September 2003. In addition to the present collection of over 20,000 volumes of business and industry reference books, the Library also stocks materials such as journals, microforms, CD-ROMs and online databases:

• Reference books on business and industry : books on finance, banking, securities, insurance, logistics, business management, trade regulations, industrial technology and manufacturing industries etc.

• Journals on business and industry : the Library is now subscribing some 600 journals in Chinese and English from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas to provide up-to-date information and research reports on business and industry of various countries

• Online databases : the databases provide timely and easily retrievable information on regional analysis, economic indicators, statistical data, market research reports, company profiles, trade regulations etc.

• Information on listed companies in Hong Kong : the Library stocks Hong Kong Exchanges Collection, including information such as IPOs, daily quotations, annual reports, etc. of the listed companies in Hong Kong
