Introduction: Established in 1948, the International Maritime Organization has been recognized as the specialized agency of the United Nations in the field of shipping since 1959. It aims to provide machinery for co-operation among governments on international shipping matters, to ensure high standards of safety at sea and to prevent pollution of the sea from ships. The Library has been designated the depository library of the IMO since August 1997. Currently more than 300 items have been deposited, including both English and Chinese publications. Among them are international conventions, codes, resolutions, recommendations, guidelines and manuals.
