How to renew borrowed library materials through the Internet

1. Access the home page of Hong Kong Public Libraries at http://www.hkpl.gov.hk

2. Select [Renew] from the Main Menu
   

3. Select Renewal of Library Materials

4. Enter your library card number or Enter your Hong Kong ID Card Number*
   (for readers who have applied for using their smart ID cards to enjoy library services only)

5. Enter your PIN (Personal Identification Number) or the last four digits of your home telephone number, then click Log In

6. Select Items Out

7. Select the library material(s) you wish to renew and then click Renew or click Renew All to renew all borrowed items

8. Note the new due date of the item(s) successfully renewed

9. Select Exit to end the renewal service

* Please enter ALL the letter(s) and digits without the brackets, e.g. a1234567 for HKID card no. A123456(7)

Notes for the Renewal Service

• The renewal service through the Internet is available 24 hours daily.

• A new due date will be displayed for every item of library material successfully renewed.

• Every accompanying item (e.g. floppy disk, CD-ROM etc.) that comes with the library material must be renewed separately.

• Library materials CANNOT be renewed through the Internet if:

  • they are already reserved by another reader;
  • they have been renewed repeatedly for 5 times;
  • they are overdue; or
  • the borrower's library record has outstanding fines exceeding the limit. 
       

• It is recommended that renewal through the Internet be made at least one working day before the due date to allow time for renewing or returning the library material(s) in person at a nearby Hong Kong Public Libraries in case renewal is unsuccessful.

• The new due date is calculated from the day the item is renewed irrespective of the original due date. A new loan period of 14 days applies and will not be extended even if the item is renewed earlier.  For example, if a book due for return on the 8th day of the month is renewed on the 6th, the new due date will fall on the 20th not the 22nd.

• All loan items which cannot be renewed should be returned to the Hong Kong Public Libraries by the due date.  Borrowers must pay the fine for all overdue loan items.
