  Password” and “PIN”

Q1: What is the difference between “Password” and “PIN” ?

A1:

Readers need to use “Password” to login library accounts when using online services for renewal of library materials or making reservation. When using telephone renewal service or self-charging terminals, readers need to enter “PIN” for authentication.

Q2: How do I know my “Password” ?

A2:

The system default “Password” would be the same as your previous “PIN” in the old system. If reader has never changed the “PIN” in the old system, its default value would be the last 4 digits of your registered phone number. If reader uses the default Password” to login library account, please change your “Password” immediately upon first time login.

Remarks: If readers fail to login the new system for the first time with their usual passwords, please try again by using the last 4 digits of their registered residential telephone numbers as login password. If the problem still cannot be resolved, please contact staff of any nearby public libraries for immediate assistance.

Q3: Why there is a need for two different sets of Password/PIN ?

A3:

PIN” is limited to 4 numeric digits in length, whilst “Password” would allow a combination of more than 4 numeric digits or alphabets, which could provide stronger online protection for readers.

Q4: How to change password/PIN ?

A4:

Readers may go to “Contact Information” tab for changing “Password” after login to their library accounts on the Internet. However, “PIN” cannot be changed by readers themselves. If readers have forgotten their “Password” or “PIN”, please contact library staff for assistance.
