Receiving Library Notices by E-mail

  1. How to apply for using the E-mail Notification Service?
    Readers can register their e-mail information at the Borrower Record Enquiry through the Hong Kong Public Libraries' homepage. The service will be effected after entering a valid e-mail address and setting the E-mail Notification Status to "Yes".

  2. Can I discontinue the E-mail Notification Service?
    Readers can update their e-mail information at the Borrower Record Enquiry through the Hong Kong Public Libraries' homepage. The service will be discontinued after setting the E-mail Notification Status to "No".

  3. Are there any charges for using the Library E-mail Notification Service?
    The service is free of charge.

  4. After registering for the E-mail Notification Service, will I receive any acknowledgement e-mail reply?
    As readers can check details of their e-mail information at the Borrower Record Enquiry through the Hong Kong Public Libraries' homepage any time after registration, there is no need for the Library to issue acknowledgement reply. Moreover, readers are required to check regularly their e-mail accounts to ensure that their accounts are properly functioning and there is sufficient storage space for receiving library notices.

  5. What information will be sent through e-mail to me?
    The following library notices will be delivered to you through e-mail:

    1. First Overdue Notice
    2. Hold Awaiting Notice
    3. Hold Unavailable Notice

  6. Shall I receive information on Library extension activities after registration for the E-mail Notification Service?
    No. The e-mail address provided will only be used for registration of the E-mail Notification Service and for receiving Library E-mail Notices.

  7. Can I register with more than one e-mail address?
    No. Each reader can register with one e-mail address only.

  8. Can I register for the E-mail Notification Service with e-mail address of others?
    No. As the Library E-mail Notices will be sent to registered readers individually, readers are required to register with their own e-mail addresses.

  9. I have provided my e-mail address when I applied for my library card, will it be used to send my Library Notices automatically?
    No. As the e-mail address provided may be changed or cancelled, readers will not be able to receive Library E-mail Notices unless they register for the Service at the Borrower Record Enquiry through the Hong Kong Public Libraries' homepage. Readers with valid e-mail addresses in their records but have not yet registered for the E-mail Notification Service will continue to receive Library Notices by post.

  10. Why application for using E-mail Notification Service and updating e-mail information in writing are not accepted?
    We understand that users applying for the E-mail Notification Service are knowledgeable on the use of electronic services. Indeed, registration of e-mail information at the Borrower Record Enquiry through the Hong Kong Public Libraries' homepage is simple and easy, and we recommend readers to update their e-mail information by this means. In addition, delay of issuing notices due to incorrect input of e-mail information by library staff can also be avoided.

  11. Can I apply for the E-mail Notification Service through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) terminals at the libraries?
    This service is not available at the OPAC terminals; please make use of other Internet workstations at the libraries.

  12. Can I choose to receive Library Notices by post after the launching of the new serivce?
    Yes. Readers who have not registered for using the E-mail Notification Service or they have subsequently chosen to discontinue the Service, will receive Library Notices by post.

  13. Can I choose to receive the Library Notices by e-mail and by post?
    To make the best use of the available resources, Library Notices will not be delivered to readers by e-mail and by post.

  14. Can I choose to have some Library Notices to be delivered by e-mail, and the others by post?
    No. Reader is free to choose how their Library Notices should be delivered, however, once selected, all Library Notices will be delivered through the selected means.
