How to register for using the Library Email Notification Service

  1. Go to the Hong Kong Public Libraries homepage at www.hkpl.gov.hk.

  2. Select Renew/My Account from the homepage.

  3. Enter your library card number or Hong Kong ID Card Number*.

  4. Enter your password or the last four digits of your registered telephone number. Then click Login.

  5. Select My Account and then click Contact Information.

  6. At Contact Information screen, click Edit and select Email as your Notification Preference in the box of Personal Information.

  7. Enter your email address in the box provided and click Save.

  8. Read “the Conditions of Use for Email Notification Service” carefully and click the Accept button below if you agree to these conditions of use or click the Decline button if you do not agree to any of these conditions. Please select Paper Mail as your Notification Preference in the box of Personal Information if you click Decline.

  9. A message of “Your contact information has been updated” will be shown when you have successfully registered the information.

    After successful completion of the registration process, the following library notices will be sent to your email address by email:

  Library Notice Normal delivery time
i. Due Date Reminder# 2 days before due date
ii. First Overdue Notice 15 days after due date
iii. Hold Awaiting Notice 1 day after hold is filled
iv. Hold Unavailable Notice 1 day after hold is cancelled

       * For readers who have applied for using their Smart ID cards for the library
          services only.
       # Only applicable for library items borrowed or renewed after the registration
          of email notification service.



 

How to change the email address or discontinue receiving library notices through email

  1. Go to the Hong Kong Public Libraries homepage at www.hkpl.gov.hk.

  2. Select Renew/My Account from the homepage.

  3. Enter your library card number or Hong Kong ID Card Number*.

  4. Enter your password or the last four digits of your registered telephone number. Then click Login.

  5. Select My Account and then click Contact Information.

  6. At Contact Information screen, click Edit.

  7. i.  To change the email address, delete the old email address in the box of Correspondence Address, enter your new email address and click Save.

    ii.  Please click Accept after reading the “Conditions of Use for Email Notification Service”.

    iii. To discontinue receiving library notices through email, select Paper mail as your Notification Preference in the box of Personal Information and click Save. Library notices will be sent by post upon discontinuation of receiving email notices.

     
  8. A message of “Your contact information has been updated” will be shown when you have successfully updated the information.
     

       * For readers who have applied for using their Smart ID cards for the library services
          only.



 

Notes for the Email Notification Service

  1. Readers are required to register personally through the Libraries’ homepage his/her email address for the use of Email Notification Service. Registration is activated by entering a valid email address to his/her My Account and selecting the Notification Preference to "Email".

  2. After completion of the registration process, readers are required to login to his/her My Account again to verify the correctness of his/her registered email address to ensure library notices can be correctly delivered to them.

  3. Readers registered for the Email Notification Service agree that the following four types of library notices will be delivered to their registered email addresses:

    1. Due Date Reminder (2 days before due date)
    2. First Overdue Notice (15 days after due date)
    3. Hold Awaiting Notice (1 day after hold is filled)
    4. Hold Unavailable Notice (1 day after hold is cancelled)

    Unless the situation as described by para. (5) below occurs, no printed library notices will be posted to their registered correspondence address.

  4. Readers are required to check regularly their email accounts to ensure that their Internet Service Providers and email accounts are properly functioning and there is sufficient storage space for receiving library notices. Hong Kong Public Libraries accept no liability arising from the failure of the readers’ registered email addresses in receiving library notices.

  5. Whenever an email library notice (except the Due Date Reminder) delivered to a reader's registered email address is bounced back, Hong Kong Public Libraries will re-send a printed notice to the reader by post with exactly the same content as the bounced email notice . If the number of undelivered or bounced emails exceeds the library-defined limit, the Notification Preference in this reader's My Account will be automatically changed to “Paper mail” and library notices will be sent to this reader by post afterward. This reader will not be able to receive library notices by email until he/she registers again for the Service.

  6. The email address you enter in My Account will only be used for registration of the Email Notification Service and receiving library notices through email.
